(Una favola antica proveniente dalla Guinea)

In Africa, in una foresta, viveva una Giraffa veloce, magra, altissima e bellissima.

La Giraffa sapeva di essere bella, e per questo era diventata arrogante perché pensava di essere migliore degli altri.

La Giraffa non aiutava nessuno e non chiedeva aiuto.

La Giraffa chiedeva a tutti di essere ammirata.

 Gli altri animali erano stanchi dell’arroganza della giraffa e la prendevano in giro.

La Giraffa non si accorgeva di essere presa in giro, perché pensava solo alla sua bellezza.

Un giorno la Scimmia decise di dare una lezione alla Giraffa.

La Scimmia prese in giro la Giraffa facendole molti complimenti:

- "Ma come sei bella!"

- "Ma come sei alta!"

- "Il tuo collo è lunghissimo e arriva molto in alto!"

La Scimmia, mentre diceva queste cose, portò la Giraffa verso la palma della foresta.

La Scimmia e la Giraffa arrivarono alla palma della foresta. Qui, la Scimmia chiese alla Giraffa di prendere i datteri più dolci che stavano molto in alto sulla palma.

Il collo della Giraffa era lunghissimo, ma purtroppo non riusciva ad arrivare ai datteri.

Allora la Scimmia, saltò sulla schiena della giraffa, poi saltò sul collo e alla fine arrivò sulla testa e riuscì a prendere i datteri.

Quando la Scimmia tornò a terra, disse alla Giraffa: 

- "Vedi, cara mia, tu sei la più alta, sei la più bella, però non puoi vivere senza gli altri, non puoi niente senza l’aiuto degli altri animali"

 La Giraffa imparò la lezione e, da quel giorno, cominciò a collaborare con gli altri animali e a rispettarli.

Questa favola dal Mondo è stata scelta ed elaborata da Diallo, volontario originario del Guinea e residente in Italia, dopo una ricerca su risorse e biblioteche online e offline.

Favole dal mondo è una iniziativa nata nell’ambito dell’attività Inclusion Point realizzata all’interno del progetto “People have the Power”. L’obiettivo dell’iniziativa è favorire l’inclusione culturale attraverso la condivisione di conoscenze e storie dal mondo, per allargare lo sguardo e gli orizzonti, per scoprire l’altro e promuovere l’arricchimento e la crescita umana e sociale del territorio in un’ottica sostenibile e glocale, rispettosa delle diversità e delle minoranze.

“People have the Power” è un progetto promosso da SEYF nell’ambito del programma European Solidarity Corps, con il supporto dell’Agenzia Nazionale per i Giovani e la partnership del Polo biblio-museale di Lecce.

THE VANITOUS GIRAFFE

(An ancient fable from Guinea)

 
Once upon a time, in Africa lived a Giraffe: it was a beautiful, very tall and quick.

The Giraffe knew about its beauty and for this reason it became arrogant because it though that it was better than others.

The Giraffe was not helping anyone and not asking for help.

The Giraffe asked everyone to be admired.

 The other animals were tired of the arrogance of the Giraffe and started to make in fun of her.

The Giraffe did not notice that the other animal were making fun of it, because it was only thinking about her beauty.

One day, the monkey decided to give a lesson to the Giraffe.

The monkey made fun of the Giraffe and congratulated it:

- "How beautiful you are!"

- " How tall you are!"

- "Your neck is very long and comes very high!"

The monkey, while saying these things, brought the Giraffe to the palm of the forest.

The monkey and the Giraffe then arrived at the palm of the forest. here, the monkey asked the Giraffe to take the sweetest dates fruits that were on a highest place on the palm.

The neck of the Giraffe was very long but, unfortunately it was not long enough to take the dates.

Then the monkey jumped on the back of the Giraffe, jumped again on the neck and finally arrived on the head and succeeded to get the dates.

 Once the monkey returned to earth, it said to the Giraffe:

- "As you can note, my dear one, you are the tallest animal, you are the most beautiful animal, but you cannot live without others, you cannot nothing without the help of other animals"

 The Giraffe learned the lesson and, from that day, began to collaborate with the other animals and to respect them.

This fairy tale from the world was chosen and elaborated by Diallo, a volunteer originally from Guinea and resident in Italy, after a research on online and offline libraries and resources. Fairy Tales from the World is an initiative undertaken within the ‘Inclusion Point’ activity created in the "People have the Power" project.

 The aim of the initiative is to foster cultural inclusion through the sharing of knowledge and stories from the world, in order to broaden the gaze and horizons, to discover the others and the promote the human and social growth of the territory in a 'sustainable and “glocal” perspective, respectful of diversity and minorities.

 "People have the Power" is a project promoted by SEYF within the European Solidarity Corps program, with the support of the National Youth Agency and with the partnership of the Polo biblio-museale di Lecce.
